Became slightly warm, snow melted, on open lands there were much birds. Most of them were common winter birds: Carrion and Hooded Crows, Rooks, Mynahs, Blackbirds, House Sparrows, Great Tits. Still there are a bit of Chaffinches, today I saw only two Chaffinches were feeding in flock together with House Sparrows. Twice I observed Goldcrests and once the Laughing Dove. Today the most interesting is the Lesser Whitethroat. The latest autumn Lesser Whitethroats recorded in the middle of October. Now is already the middle of November. Probably this Lesser Whitethroat will winter in Almaty. Whitethroat was quite cautious, stayed separately from other birds; when aggressive Mynahs or sociable Sparrows came flying Whitethroat hid. On Little Almatinka river I saw Blue Whistlig Thrush which regularly winters here. Wintering of Blue Whistling Thrush is one of features of warm winter. In small number the Chaffinches and Bramblings occurred in the city. But Rooks and Hooded Crows are a lot already. [...... read more ]

The second record of the species on the territory of Kazakhstan. Previously, one bird was photographed in the southeast in the lower reaches of the Turgen River on November 5, 2016 (I. Bevza, kz.birds.watch).

The first record of the White-winged Snowfinch in Western Altai. Photo recording was made in the southern spurs of the Ulbinsky ridge in the valley of the Urankhaika River at an altitude of less than 800 m above sea level. The White-winged Snowfinch was previously not known for the Kazakh part of Altai, but was first recorded in Southern Altai on January 26, 2017 in the upper reaches of the Tautekeli River at an altitude of 2400 m, where it was subsequently recorded on March 10, 2021, and there were also several sightings in January and February 2023 in the Sarykora tract (Vorobiev, 2023).
