Silicon Valley Observation Notes

Hello everybody! I had the chance to travel for two weeks in January in Silicon Valley, USA, California. The first impression is that I got into a “bird watcher” paradise. California birds live close to people and seem to enjoy all the legal rights of citizens of America and the state of California. All conditions have been created for their living and preservation of their natural habitat. What I dreamed about before the trip was - the first to see an American condor and - the second a hummingbird. Lucky, photographed and a dream and more. Were met as exotic for our mountains, steppes, and familiar to us. In total, more than 60 species. Прошел еще один наш общий год. И снова как один из рубежей наступил день рождения.День Рождения нашего общего Друга, Учителя, Гуру орнитологии – Бориса Михайловича!Вчера был с ним на сьемках. White-winged Snowfinch (Montifringilla nivalis)

The first record of the White-winged Snowfinch in Western Altai. Photo recording was made in the southern spurs of the Ulbinsky ridge in the valley of the Urankhaika River at an altitude of less than 800 m above sea level. The White-winged Snowfinch was previously not known for the Kazakh part of Altai, but was first recorded in Southern Altai on January 26, 2017 in the upper reaches of the Tautekeli River at an altitude of 2400 m, where it was subsequently recorded on March 10, 2021, and there were also several sightings in January and February 2023 in the Sarykora tract (Vorobiev, 2023).

The first photographic record of a rare species for the region. In the past, it nested in places around Ilek and the Urals, and by the 60s of the 20th century only vagrants were encountered in the summer (Korelov, 1962). There is information about record of two single birds on September 18 and September 19, 2007 in the area of the Karachaganak gas condensate field (V.A. Kovshar, 2008).

Канатбек Кенжегулов: Подсказывают, что возможно Халей с нарушенной линькой, что это значит насчет нарушенной линьки - не знаю. Клюв не длинноват для Халея?
