Hi everybody,
just would like to ask you about your opinion about this shrike.
In the field my first impression was a karelini-type of Lanius phoenicuroides, but after some closer views i got doubt about it.
Finally I think it is a hybrid of L. collurio and L. phoenicuroides.
Features that support my guess are mainly:
- whitish/grey cap
- some hue of red on back
- reddish, but also grey upper tail coverts
- and especially solid black central trail feathers
Thanks for your opinion.
Steve

Steve, I agree to you. This bird is not kalerini because karelini never have so black tail. Bird has solid grey head without any reddish tinge and black tail from collurio, and red uppertail coverts from phoenicuroides. Also hybrid shrikes often have mix red-grey back (you can see in gallery).
