A rare wintering species in the western part of Kazakhstan. In the Mangistau region, it has been recorded three times before. At the Tushchibek spring A.P. Moiseev caught a female on February 6, 1967 (Karpov, Kovshar, 2011), one bird was encountered on a stream near the Khangababa mosque on November 13, 2007 (Belyalov, 2008), at the non-freezing stream in the Tamshaly tract - one bird on February 2, 2014 (Belyalov, 2014).

The northernmost nesting record in the Caspian region. Prior to this, since 2015, the Shikra has been found nesting in the Mangistau region of Aktau (see the birds.kz gallery), on April 22, 2019, one bird was photographed north of Aktau - in the city of Fort Shevchenko (A. Kydyr, birds.kz ).

A new species for the Katon-Karagai National Park. A flock of 12 birds was recorded on May 20, 2022 in the floodplain of the middle reaches of the Bukhtarma in the Taylakova Yama tract, one bird on May 27, 2022 in the valley of the middle reaches of the Kara-Kaba on Lake Shoptykol, on June 3, 2022 in the Karazher tract, June 6 on the lake Yazevoe. The first record of the Great Snipe in Kazakhstan, after more than 30 years, confirmed by photography. The last record of this species dates back to 1987, when on May 7 a migrating Great Snipe was caught in the Tentek delta (Khrokov et al. 1993).

The first nesting record in the Kostanay region. It is known that the Ural Owl breeds in the South-Western Altai and Kalba, there is also evidence of nesting in the North Kazakhstan region (Zuban, Kalashnikov 2017) and in the East Kazakhstan region in forests north of Semey (Karpov, Levin 2005). In the Kostanay region, this species was occasionally found only during wintering (A.Yu. Timoshenko, G.Yu. Timoshenko 2021, Yu. Malkov, birds.kz).

Observed by a group of 6 ornithologists on the eastern coast of the Aral Sea on May 11-12, 2022 and on the northern coast on May 12-13, 2022, where, according to S. Baskakova, it was especially numerous - several males singing at the same time on clayey chinks. For the first time this species was recorded on May 9, 2018 in Mangistau in the Karagie depression near the Ashibulak spring (see the site gallery).

The northernmost record of the Trumpeter Finch on the territory of Kazakhstan. A few more southern records are known: on the territory of Mangystau, on artesians near the village of Kanshengel, both in nesting and non-nesting time. According to unpublished data, one birds was observed on May 13, 2021 on artesians in western Betpakdala by Svetlana Baskakova and Nicolas Moulin. Also recently, in the Turkestan region in the Karaktau mountains in the eastern part of the Kyzylkum desert, on May 9-10, 2021, two pairs of the Trumpeter Finch and an unfinished nest, subsequently abandoned, were found (Fedorenko, 2022).

A rare morph of the Black-throated Thrush Turdus atrogularis var. relictа, occurring within Kazakhstan during the passage and summer time in the Central and Southern Altai (Kovshar 2005; Kolbintsev 2005; Berezovikov, Alekseev 2013; Berezovikov 2007, 2013), in winter in the lower reaches of the Bukhtarma (Berezovikov, Rekuts 2021), as well as in the south - in Aksu - Dzhabagly (Sanzhar Abdikhalyk, see the gallery birds.kz).

A rare record for Semey, where this species was last recorded only in 1922 (Selevin 1926). Pallas's Rosefinch periodically appear in winter in the Altai foothills in the Irtysh valley of the East Kazakhstan region. For the first time recorded in the Balkhash region and in general in the south-east of Kazakhstan. The Pied Flycatcher occurs on migration mostly in Western Kazakhstan, since 1999, 1-3 birds have been regularly observed in Karazhar and Korgalzhyn (Koshkin 2017), two spring records in the east of Kazakhstan in Ust-Kamenogorsk and Serebryansk are also known (see gallery this website).

Eurasian Wryneck (Jynx torquilla)

First found nesting in the Kostanay region. Eurasian Wryneck breeds in Ural valley (in south to Budarino village), Ilek valley, on Kokchetav upland, in Irtysh valley, on Southwest Altai and Southern Altai. (Gavrilov 1999). For the Naurzum Nature Reserve, it is listed as a rare migrant (Bragin 2017). It is worth noting that before that, the Eurasian Wryneck was photographed in the summer period in the Kostanay region near the village of Nadezhdinka on July 10, 2015 (Yuri Malkov, birds.kz).

A rare record for the Kazakh part of Altai. In total, three summer finds of Zoothera varia are known, concentrated on the Ivanovsky and Tigiretsky ridges: a singing male on June 13, 2003 (Panov, Karpov 2003), a juvenile on July 7, 2019, and a young bird on August 7, 2020 (Bolbotov 2020), and only one autumn - September 19, 2010 in Ust-Kamenogorsk (Loginova, Loginov 2011). The next record on May 9, 2021 on the southern slope of the Ulba ridge suggests that it is settling in the direction of the Bukhtarma Valley. (N.N.Berezovikov, written communication).

The first reliable record of the Great Black-backed Gull on the territory of Kazakhstan. There are indications of finds of this gull in the Caspian Sea between the mouths of the Volga and the Urals, as well as near Omsk (Dolgushin 1962). Vagrant are known to the Makhachkala region (Tatarinkova 1970).

A rare vagrant species for Kazakhstan. On February 27 and 28, two birds kept in the thickets of silverberries near the village of Uzynagash (43 km west of Almaty). This is the sixth record of the Dusky Thrush for Kazakhstan. Records of this species are known for the Syrdarya, near the village of Dzhulek (October 16, 1927), near Almaty (February 16, 2013), as well as Ust-Kamenogorsk (October 14 and 16, 2016), Kurgaldzhino (May 7, 2020).
