Distribution

On migration occurs mainly in eastern part of plains of Kazakhstan in west to Syrdarya mouth and Naurzum lakes.

Biology

Rare passage migrant. Occurs on shores and also on nearby pastures of fresh and salty lakes. In spring arrives in end of March or in April, latest birds were observed in end of May. At autumn appears in mid-July (Ust-Kamenogorsk, Yanykurgan on Syrdarya valley), but usually in August. The mass migration is going in September, the latest autumn birds observed in mid-October in northern areas, and in end of October in southern ones. Migrates singly and in flocks of several dozen birds mostly, but on Zaysan lake the flocks of up to one hundred birds were observed.
